Amid tariff war with US, Jaishankar meets Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a three-day visit to Russia, met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday.

The high-stakes meeting came against the backdrop of steep US tariffs of 50 per cent on Indian goods in a move that the Trump administration said was prompted by India's purchase of Russian crude oil, suggesting that it is indirectly funding Moscow's war in Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar underlined India-Russia ties as "the steadiest of the major relationships in the world after the Second World War".
