After mounting criticism over sexualised AI deepfakes, X has announced new restrictions on its artificial intelligence tool Grok, saying the system will no longer be able to edit photos of real people to make them appear in revealing clothing.

The move follows widespread concern in countries including the UK and the United States over the misuse of AI tools to generate manipulated and sexualised images without consent.

“We have implemented technological measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing such as bikinis,” X said in a statement. “This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers.”
