53 more taluks to be declared drought-hit, total to touch 177

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said on Tuesday that the number of drought-hit taluks would touch 177 and might reach 200 in the coming days.

Initiating a discussion on the drought situation in the Legislative Council, Parameshwara, the revenue minister, urged the Opposition to arrive at a united position with the government, so that it could be presented before the Centre, in the interest of farmers and the state.

“Let the state’s interest come before politics. We have declared drought strictly as per union government’s guidelines. The number of drought-hit taluks will rise to 177 and the total number of drought-hit taluks could rise to around 200,” he said.
