NEW DELHI: Chief JusticeChief JusticeChief Justice of India S A Bobde on Monday said his "will you marry her” remark - asking a rape accused whether he will marry the complainant - has been taken out of context and "completely misreported."

The news reports and activists quoted this "will you marry her” remark out of context to create a controversy and tarnish the image of the Supreme Court, the apex court said.

The statement comes after CJI's remarks during a bail plea hearing last week in which Bobde asked a man accused of rape whether he will marry the complainant. CJI's remarks were widely reported and criticised by some people.
