The US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) will provide $553 million in funding for a deepwater shipping container terminal in the Port of Colombo, which is being developed by Adani Ports as a joint venture. This is the first time a US government agency is funding an Adani project. The terminal, called Colombo West International Terminal, will boost Sri Lanka's trade and commerce ecosystem and create employment opportunities. The Port of Colombo is the largest transshipment port in the Indian Ocean and has been operating at over 90% capacity since 2021.
