Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is streaming on Netflix from today, Wednesday. The premiere of the web series took place in Los Angeles, Bhansali spoke about his vision and also revealed how he wanted to cast Rekha, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji.

The director quoted saying that the idea of Heeramandi has stayed with him for 18 years, but the film did not materialize. Talking to Lilly Singh at the premiere, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said that he wanted to cast Bollywood divas including Rekha ji, Kareena and Rani Mukerji, but then it changed into another cast. They said that Heeramandi was supposed to be a film. Bhansali also revealed that he thought of casting Pakistani actors Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan and Imran Abbas in the show.
