The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said it will see the detailed judgment after a court in Qatar reduced the death sentences of eight former Indian Naval officers allegedly involved in a case of corruption and espionage.

Responding to a question at a weekly media briefing on Friday, spokesperson Arindam Bagchi reiterated MEA’s statement released on Thursday and said, “We don’t have any additional information to share till we see the detailed judgement. We urge you again not to engage in speculation. The interest of the Indians and their family members is our foremost concern.”

“We will discuss the next possible steps with the legal team and family members,” he added.

The Court of Appeal of Qatar reduced the death sentences of the eight former Naval officers in the Dahra Global case, the MEA had said in a statement on Thursday, adding that a detailed judgement in the matter was awaited.
