Youth dies at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital, family claims no doctor was available

Kolkata: Amid ongoing protests demanding justice for the 31-year-old female doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, the death of a patient during treatment has once again raised questions about the hospital. The deceased’s mother has alleged medical negligence and the non-availability of doctors. The 28-year-old youth, who died on Friday during treatment, had been admitted to the hospital after being run over by a truck.

28-year-old Bikram Bhattachajee hailed from Hooghly’s Konnagar. He was run over by a truck and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. His mother, Kabita Bhattacharjee alleged that when her son was rushed to the emergency ward of the hospital, no doctors were present there, leading to a delay in the treatment.

“A lot of time was wasted. Within that time, his surgery should have been completed. But there was no doctor available, not even an emergency doctor,” Kabita said.
