World Suicide Prevention Day observed

The World Suicide Prevention Day was observed at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) in Palayamkottai on Wednesday.

Addressing the awareness event held at TVMCH, Dean, Revathi Balan said over 7.20 lakh persons in the world including 18,294 persons in Tamil Nadu had ended their life owing to a range of reasons despite sustained awareness programmes being organised by the governments. Even though free counselling is being given in all government medical college hospitals, the public, especially those who are in need of counselling, do not avail this facility.

“Each counselling centre is being manned by qualified clinical psychologist and well-trained counsellors, who are ready to help these patients and give the right line of medical treatment. Hence, the public should make use of it,” Dr. Revathi said.
