Will intensify protest until govt withdraws medical colleges privatisation decision: Jagan
Students and youth wings of the YSR Congress Party staged a rally against the Alliance government’s proposal to develop new government medical colleges in the PPP mode, at Paderu in ASR district on Friday (September 19, 2025).
Addressing the media, YSRCP Visakhapatnam district president K.K. Raju said that former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had taken up the construction of 17 new medical colleges with the idea of providing modern medical facilities to the people of the State. Admissions had already begun at five of these medical colleges, he added.
He alleged that after the Alliance government came to power in Andhra Pradesh, it had decided to privatise the proposed government medical colleges. “Privatisation would deprive students from poor and middle class families of medical education. The construction of medical college at Paderu was taken up with ₹500 crore, and 70% of construction was completed and classes began with 50 seats, a year ago,” he said.
