Why BJP MLAs are planning 'day and night' protest in Karnataka assembly
The Karnataka Legislature witnessed an unprecedented all-night dharna by opposition parties BJP and JD(S) demanding a discussion on the alleged fraudulent allotment of sites by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The controversy involves plots reportedly allocated to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi.
The BJP and JD(S) legislators, led by Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and BJP state President B Y Vijayendra, spent the night in the Assembly and Council chambers. Demonstrators held placards and chanted slogans in the form of "bhajans" against the Congress government, CM Siddaramaiah, and Speaker U T Khader for not allowing a debate on the issue.
Basavaraj Horatti, Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council said, "They (BJP) have sent an adjournment motion regarding MUDA. I tried to explain to them that this is not a regular matter. Regular matter means if the government has failed in its duty, riots, floods, all these problems, then only I can accept the motion and give permission to the opposition party. But this is not a regular matter. This happened 3-4 years ago. Now it has come in the media. "
