Virat Kohli to play county cricket? Middlesex confirm interest in India star
County side Middlesex has confirmed its interest in signing Virat Kohli after the Indian star announced his retirement from Test cricket. Kohli decided to retire from Tests on May 12, bringing down the curtains on an illustrious career. The 36-year-old played 123 Tests for India, scoring 9230 runs, including 30 hundreds and 31 fifties.
Kohli released a lengthy statement on May 12 announcing his decision to quit the Indian Test team, but there was no comment on his first-class career. Alan Coleman, director of cricket at Middlesex, talked to the Guardian and confirmed the interest of the county side in having Kohli in their ranks. Coleman hailed Kohli as the most iconic player of his generation and admitted that Middlesex would like to open talks with the Indian star about a possible stint in the county championship.
“Virat Kohli is the most iconic player of his generation, so of course we are interested in having that conversation,” said Coleman.
