Rajasthan police arrested filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt in connection with a Rs 30 crore fraud case involving Dr Ajay Murdia, the owner of Udaipur’s Indira Group of Companies. The case reportedly stems from promises made to finance a biopic on Dr Murdia’s late wife. Authorities had issued notices to six accused previously, giving them time to appear by December 8.
The complaint, filed at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur, claims that Bhatt and associates misled Dr Murdia into funding the project, promising returns of approximately Rs 200 crore. The FIR names several others, including Mehboob and Dinesh Kataria, alleging financial wrongdoing and false promises in connection with the proposed film.
Speaking to NDTV, Vikram Bhatt dismissed the allegations as “baseless and misleading,” claiming the FIR contains fabricated documents. He further alleged that Dr Murdia halted the film Virat midway and failed to make pending payments, leaving technicians owed nearly Rs 250 crore. “I have complete proof of what I’m saying. If the police need documents, I’ll show everything. After that, it will be clear who is right and who is wrong,” Bhatt said.
