The United States States States Court has agreed to take up a major case of birthright citizenship. President Donald Trump’s attempts to end birthright citizenship have been debatable. It comes as controversial under his immigration agenda, and lower courts have already blocked it. Now that the final decision will come from the Supreme Court, everyone’s looking at the matter with seriousness and hope. The verbal arguments are most likely to happen next year.
What does Trump want to change? Donald Trump had signed an executive order stating that US-born children of immigrants or of individuals with visas on a temporary basis are not to be allowed to become the automatic citizens of the nation. Many argue that it comes as a violation to the 14th Amendment of the constitution, as it mentions that any person born in the US is its citizen. Later, the lower courts also said that the executive order comes as an immediate violation. Now, everyone’s eyeing the Supreme Court’s judgement.
Why is this case so important? The birthright citizenship applies to all individuals born in the United States. In addition, it has existed for over 150 years. This amendment to the rule may impact many families in the country.
