UN Probe Accuses Israel of Crimes Against Humanity, Hamas of War Crimes
The United Nations has issued a critical report accusing both Israel and Hamas of committing war crimes during the recent conflict in Gaza.
First let’s understand what is a war crime? So basically War crimes are crimes that come under the collective name of ‘core international crimes’. Core international crimes are some of the gravest crimes in international law, examples of them can include; the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and torture.
A UN investigation reported on Wednesday that both Israel and Hamas committed war crimes at the beginning of the Gaza conflict. The investigation also found that Israel’s actions could be considered crimes against humanity due to the high number of civilian casualties. The findings came from two separate reports by the UN Commission of Inquiry (COI), one looking at the attacks on October 7 and the other at Israel’s response.
