Trump accused of rape in Epstein files, but DOJ rubbishes claims

The US Justice Department has dismissed allegations against Donald Trump referenced in newly released Jeffrey Epstein investigation files, calling them “sensationalist” and “untrue.” The documents, made public on Tuesday, include multiple tips submitted to federal investigators that accuse Trump of involvement in Epstein’s abuse of young women and girls.

According to the files, a limousine driver claimed to have overheard Trump discussing Epstein “abusing” a girl, while another tip included an allegation by an alleged victim accusing Trump and Epstein of rape. The documents do not clarify whether the FBI followed up on these claims. The alleged victim later died from a gunshot wound to the head after reporting the incident.

The Justice Department said that nowhere in the newly released material do federal agents or prosecutors indicate that Trump was suspected of wrongdoing or that he was formally investigated. Trump maintained a social relationship with Epstein until the mid-2000s, but the files do not link him to criminal charges.
