A roadside peepal tree got uprooted amid rains and fell on a school bus, killing one student in Mumbai's Chembur area on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) afternoon, civic officials said.
The incident took place around 3 p.m. and a rescue operation was mounted to retrieve the 12 students trapped inside the bus. According to the Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC), the students were rescued by the bus conductor and local citizens. “Out of them, four students sustained minor injuries, while one boy was seriously injured. The injured students have been admitted to Zen Hospital for further treatment,” the BMC said.
Later, the on-duty medical officer of Zen Hospital informed that while the condition of four students is stable, the critically injured student, Vihan Shrivastav (11-years-old), was declared dead at 4.23 p.m.
