Travel advisory for Jeju Island: Indian embassy urges visitors to carry documents following Sachin Awasthi's detention

The Indian Embassy in South Korea on Feb 24 issued an advisory for Indian nationals travelling to Jeju Island under the visa-waiver scheme, stressing that the facility is only for short-term tourism and does not guarantee entry, which is solely at the discretion of immigration authorities at Jeju International Airport.

The embassy warned that violations such as overstay or unauthorised activity can trigger future travel bans, and said travellers denied entry would be returned on the next available flight and may need to wait in a holding facility depending on schedules.

The advisory followed influencer Sachin Awasthi’s viral claims that he and his wife were denied entry and detained for nearly 38 hours during their Jeju trip and onward transit.
