Toddler found dead in a farmwell near Gudiyatham town
A leopard was found dead in the Karulai range of the Nilambur forest on Sunday (February 2). The leopard was presumed 10 years old. There were no injuries on the body. It is suspected that the leopard had a natural death due to age. According to forest officials, leopards usually live 10 to 15 years in the wild. Forest authorities have begun an investigation into the death.
In another incident, a one-week-old elephant calf was found dead in Marutha area of Nilambur forest on Sunday. The baby elephant was suspected to have been killed by a tiger.
Forest staff had reportedly seen a tiger when two elephants kept guard for the baby elephant on Saturday (February 1). When the forest staff returned on Sunday, the calf’s carcass was found about 100 metres away in a bush. It was also partly eaten.
