Supreme Court seeks Education Ministry reply on plea to regulate schools teaching under-14s

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the School Education Secretary in the Union Ministry of Education on a petition alleging non-compliance of its order to consider a plea seeking directions to

Monitor all institutions imparting secular education or religious instruction to children aged below 14.

A Bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sheel Nagu asked the Secretary (Department of School Education and Literacy) in the Ministry of Education to respond in four weeks to a contempt petition filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, who alleged that the secretary did not take any action on his representation.
