Supreme Court of India on Friday (April 17, 2026) allowed Congress leader Pawan Khera to file an application for anticipatory bail immediately before the competent court in Assam in connection with an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, over allegations that she held multiple passports

If such an application for pre-arrest bail is filed, the top court said the court concerned in Assam would be influenced in any way neither by the grant of one-week interim transit bail allowed to Mr. Khera by the Telangana High Court nor the stay of the High Court order by the Supreme Court on April 15.
