New Delhi: Two days after a building collapse at Satya Niketan in Delhi claimed seven lives, the Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae on Tuesday urged the apex court to expand its ongoing safety inspections to cover all paying guest (PG) accommodation facilities, private hostels and similar student housing near colleges and universities across the national capital.
In his report, senior advocate Ajit Kumar Sinha linked the tragedy to an earlier collapse in the same locality in April 2022 that left two dead and four injured.
The recurrence, he said, raises serious questions about the effectiveness of mechanisms for identifying dangerous structures and enforcing building bylaws.
