Sugarcane for pongal gift hampers inspected in plantations

District Collector K. M. Sarayu inspected sugarcane plantations in Uthangarai earmarked for procurement for use in Pongal hampers slated for distribution through fair price outlets.

Inspecting cane plantations in S. Mottur village in Samalpatty panchayat, Ms. Sarayu inspected the quality of cane earmarked for procurement. With the announcement of pongal gift hampers comprising of a kilogram each of rice and sugar, and one full sugarcane for Pongal, the district administration has geared up for distribution of hampers.

Block-level procurement committees have been constituted for the procurement of full cane that will go with each Pongal gift hamper. Procurement committees are constituted to procure cane in Uthangarai, Mathur, Bargur, Vepanapalli, Thally, Kaveripattinam and Kelamangalam blocks. Distribution of tokens to family card holders for collecting the gift hampers commenced here on Friday and would be completed by January 8.
