Soumya Vishwanathan Murder Case: Delhi High Court Grants Bail To 4 Convicts With Life Imprisonment
New Delhi: Headlines Today (now India Today) television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan was 25 years old when she was shot dead on September 30, 2008. Soumya was returning home in her car at 3:30 AM when she was shot and according to Delhi Police, they had claimed that the motive of this murder was robbery. Last year in October, Delhi’s Saket Court has convicted all five accused in the case, the names of which are, Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Malik, Ajay Kumar and Ajay Sethi. In a latest development in the case, Delhi High Court has granted bail to four of the five convicts.
As mentioned earlier, Delhi High Court has granted bail to four convict in the Soumya Vishwanathan Murder Case. Convicts Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Malik and Ajay Kumar have been granted bail by a Division Bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Girish Kathpalia. The Court has said that these convicts have already been behind bars for nearly 14 years and that’s why they have been granted bail. Their life sentence will remain suspended till the time Delhi HC finally decides the convicts’ appeals against their conviction and sentencing in the murder case.
“There were four appeals today & their application for suspension of sentence were listed. The court has suspended the sentence of all four accused persons convicts during the pendency of the appeal. The main consideration was the period of custody that they have undergone to date… There is a probability that Ajay Kumar may come (out).
