Members of the Federation of Progressive Organisations, Gandhi Vichara Parishat, Mysuru, and Janandolanagala Mahamaitri (JMM) observed Martyrs’ Day as a black day here on Thursday.

Martyrs’ Day is held to recall the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 1948. Those who took part in the commemorative event assembled near the Gandhi statue opposite the court and rendered bhajans.

The JMM and others said that it was imperative to retrieve the real image of Lord Rama which was held dear by Mahatma Gandhi but has been hijacked and twisted by the Hindutva elements and communal forces to propagate their divisive agenda.
