SC takes note of landslides, floods; questions states on felling of trees

Supreme Court: The Supreme Court observed the brutalities caused by incessant heavy rainfall in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand this week. As a result, it is seeking replies from the Centre, NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority), and affected states.

The apex court took note of the destruction in depth, from the felling of trees to major landslides in the regions.

Notices were issued to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and the governments of states such as Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab.
