The Supreme Court on Wednesday instructed the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and state pollution control boards to devise measures to curb air pollution within three weeks. This directive comes in anticipation of rising pollution levels with the onset of winter.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran reprimanded states for vacancies in their pollution control boards, demanding that states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab fill these positions within three months.

Similar instructions were given to the CAQM and the CPCB. However, the court allowed six months for filling promotional posts in the state pollution control boards, CAQM, and CPCB.
