Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Friday assured a delegation of residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi that the Pradhan Mantri Uday Yojana will confer ownership rights on them and “change the fate” of the entire city, the BJP said.

Addressing around 200 representatives from such colonies at his residence, the party said in a statement, Mr. Modi said the BJP had started the process of finding a solution to the problem soon after the formation of the BJP government at the Centre in 2014. The delegations also consisted of the party’s seven Lok Sabha MPs.

“We hoped that the local government will share some responsibilities but the process did not speed up. Then it was decided that we will take the responsibility if nobody does it,” the Prime Minister was quoted as having told the delegation, in a statement issued by the party’s State unit.
