Ravneet Singh Bittu Demands ‘Gem Of Community’ Award For Man Who Attacked Sukhbir Badal
Union Minister and grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu, sparked controversy on Saturday when he called on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to recognise Narain Singh Chaura, the man who attacked SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, as a "Qaum de Heere" or "Gem of the community." Speaking in Delhi, Bittu urged the Akali Dal and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to provide Chaura with legal support in his ongoing case.
Bittu condemned the firing incident which targeted Sukhbir Singh Badal. However, he said that Chaura’s actions were a response to religious sentiment rather than personal revenge. "Narain Singh Chaura, a senior citizen, acted not out of personal revenge against Sukhbir Singh Badal but as a response to the sacrilege issue," Bittu said.
He referred to Badal's alleged involvement in the desecration of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib and the misuse of funds at the Golden Temple as a motivating factor behind Chaura’s actions. "The act reflects emotional outrage tied to religious sentiments," he added.
