Scenes of uprooted trees, submerged and damaged houses and flown off roofs were visible across the Philippines as Typhoon Kalmaegi tore through the Southeast Asian country on Wednesday, leaving 114 dead and scores missing. Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr declared a state of emergency as rescue personnel raced against time to evacuate the stranded, AP reported.
The typhoon, the deadliest to hit the country this year, comes less than a month after a powerful earthquake killed 72 people and injured more than 140. More misery is in store, with officials warning that another tropical cyclone could strengthen into a super typhoon and batter northern Philippines next week.
