Pakistan captain Fatima Sana returns home after father dies

New Delhi: Pakistan captain Fatima Sana is in deep grief during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup being played in the UAE. Fatima Sana’s father has passed away. Due to this, she is leaving the tournament midway and returning to her country. 22-year-old Fatima is captaining Pakistan for the first time in a World Cup. She is also the youngest captain among all the 10 teams in this World Cup.

As soon as the news of Fatima’s father’s death came, a wave of mourning spread across the entire Pakistani team. Pakistani players expressed condolences for their captain and her family on social media. Fatima’s fellow players present in UAE have expressed their grief over the death of her father.

Pakistan’s team is in Group A in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Teams from India, England, New Zealand and Australia are also present in this group. Pakistan’s team is in third place in the points table with one win and one loss in 2 matches. Pakistan’s next match is against Australia on 11 October. Fatima Sana will not be available for this match. In her absence, wicketkeeper-batter Muniba Ali will take over the command of the team. Pakistan will have to win both their remaining matches at any cost to remain in the race for the semi-finals.
