The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Today, on September 19, the Film Federation of India (FFI) announced India’s official entry for the Oscars 2026 in the International Feature Film category. From India, Homebound, a film produced by filmmaker Karan Johar’s production house, has been selected.

India’s official entry for the 2026 Oscars was announced in Kolkata on Friday. Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound has been selected for the International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards. The film received an overwhelming response at the Cannes Film Festival and also secured the second runner-up position for the International People’s Choice Award at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

India has been submitting films to the Oscars since 1957, when Mehboob Khan’s ‘Mother India‘ became the country’s first Oscar-nominated film. Last year, Kiran Rao’s “Missing Ladies” represented India, though it failed to make the top 15 shortlist. The team expressed disappointment, but also expressed pride in the film’s journey and the worldwide recognition it received.
