Orange alert for 11 districts in Kerala on July 31

The reinvigorated southwest monsoon is likely to continue two more days triggered by the deep depression over westcentral Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of Vidarbha and southeast Madhya Pradesh. According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday, the system is very likely to weaken gradually into a depression during next 12 hours.

However, the State is likely to witness some intense spells influenced by the system along with an off-shore trough that runs from south Gujarat to north Kerala. Strong westerlies/northwesterlies are prevailing over Kerala and Lakshadweep area in the lower tropospheric levels.

Forecasting intense rains, the IMD has issued an orange alert for 11 districts in the State on Friday (July 31, 2026), except Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram where yellow alert has been issued, warning of isolated heavy rains. An orange alert has also been issued for nine districts on Saturday and a yellow alert for the remaining five districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod.
