US sprinter Noah Lyles revealed he had COVID-19 after finishing third in the ParisParisParis Olympics 200m final, behind Kenneth Bednarek and gold medalist Letsile Tebogo. Following the race, Lyles collapsed, asked for water, and was taken away in a wheelchair. He later stated that COVID-19 had "definitely" impacted his performance and that he tested positive early on 6th August but was cleared to compete.
Despite the illness, the US track federation and Olympic Committee followed all guidelines. Lyles is set to run the anchor leg of the 4x100 relay and will decide on his participation after consulting teammates.
