Newly elected local body members take oath in Kannur

Newly elected members of local self-government institutions in Kannur district assumed office on Sunday (December 21) after taking the oath before returning officers. Members elected to 71 grama panchayats, 11 block grama panchayats, eight municipalities, the district panchayat and the Kannur Municipal Corporation were sworn in across the district.

The district panchayat oath-taking ceremony was held at the Kannur district panchayat auditorium. Senior-most member elected from the Mattool division, S.K.P. Sakariya, was administered the oath by District Collector Arun K. Vijayan, who is also the returning officer. Sakariya later administered the oath to other members in the order of division numbers.
