
NDA Authorises PM Modi, Nadda To Pick Vice President Candidate
Vice-President Election: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda will pick the BJP-led NDA’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Thursday. In a meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, floor leaders of the ruling alliance met Thursday and authorised PM Modi and Nadda, who is also Leader of House in Rajya Sabha, to select the NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate, he said.
“In the NDA Parliamentary party flood leaders meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, it was unanimously decided that the NDA has given authorisation to start the process, including the selection of candidate to PM and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda. The decision taken by the Prime Minister will be accepted by all the NDA parties,” Rijiju said.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, the 14th Vice President of India, tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on the evening of July 21 last month, citing health concerns. Dhankhar, who had assumed office on August 11, 2022 replacing M Venkaiah Naidu, had two years left in his term when he stepped down from the post.
