"The Director and Members of NCERT hereby tender an unconditional and unqualified apology for the said Chapter IV. The entire book has been withdrawn and is not available," the body said.
Apart from political reactions, the chapter also sparked Supreme Court's fury. The Supreme Court last month imposed a "complete blanket ban" on any further publication, reprinting or digital dissemination of the NCERT Class 8 book as it contained "offending" contents on corruption in the judiciary. The top court had sad "a gunshot has been fired and the institution is bleeding".
NCERT, regretting any inconvenience caused, said it remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, sensitivity, and responsibility in educational content.
