The massive spread of a new virulent strain of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) across Africa triggered the World Health Organisation (WHO) to declare it a global public health emergency last week.
Countries including India have put hospitals and airports on high alert to watch out for isolating, managing and treating mpox patients.
However, a WHO official has stressed that mpox is "not the new Covid" and authorities know how to control its spread unlike the previous pandemic.
