Mohammed Shami is back in the Indian team after a long wait, having been selected for the upcoming T20I series against England. However, Rishabh Pant has been left out of the squad, with India opting for Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel as the chosen wicketkeepers.

Shami's last contribution came in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, where he was the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets in seven matches. Following this outstanding feat, he took a break from international cricket due to an ankle ailment.

The seasoned fast bowler made his comeback by playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, as well as the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He is now competing in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shami missed the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 due to knee swelling. In his absence, Pat Cummins led his team to a 3-1 triumph over India, their first series win in a decade.
