Minakshi Hooda became the second Indian to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool on Sunday. The lanky 24-year-old defeated Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay, who had won bronze at the Paris Olympics, 4-1 in the rematch of June-July’s World Cup final in Astana, where the local boxer had prevailed.

Minakshi, born to an auto-rickshaw driver in Rurki, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) constable, continued her remarkable streak of winning a medal at every international tournament she has entered.

The former Asian Championships and World Cup silver medallist registered a resounding 5-0 victory over Mongolia’s Lutsaikhany Altantsetse, the 2023 World Championships runner-up, in the 48kg semifinal, which is a non-Olympic weight class, at the M&S Bank Arena.
