The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seriously considering clipping head coach Gautam Gambhir’s wings. The former India opener had hand-picked his support staff which included his former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) colleagues Abhishek Nayar as assistant coach and Morne Morkel as bowling coach.

But after Indian batters’ dismal showing in the 3-1 loss to Australia in the five-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), the BCCI feel there is urgent need to help senior batters like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and other members of Indian team. According to a report in Times of India (TOI) website, the batting coach of India is likely to be domestic giant Sitanshu Kotak.

The former Saurashtra captain had notched up 8,061 runs in 130 first-class matches in his career with 15 hundreds and 55 fifties. He also had 3,083 runs in List A cricket in 89 matches with 3 hundreds and 26 fifties. But more than his runs, Kotak was known for his defensive technique in domestic cricket. It was Kotak who inspired the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara from Saurashtra to focus on their defence first come what may.
