The Karnataka Cabinet on Friday decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe further into the 40% commission allegations made by the Karnataka State Contractors’ Association (KSCA) during the BJP regime. The government has set a two-month deadline for the SIT to complete the probe.

The Cabinet decision came after the retired judge H.N. Nagamohan Das under whom a commission had been set up to probe the allegations, submitted a two volume report to the government before the Cabinet met. Of about 3 lakh works, the commission considered a sample of 1,729 works in which allegations of corruption were made.

Interestingly, this decision comes even as the Karnataka State Contractors’ Association, recently wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that contrary to assurances, seniority was not being followed while clearing pending bills in the Water Resources, Public Works, and Minor Irrigation underin the incumbent Congress government.
