Jos Buttler resigned as England's captain in one-day internationals and T20 internationals following their disastrous early exit from Champions Trophy 2025. Buttler made the announcement on Friday, Feburary 28 in Karachi, a day before their final Group B match against England.

Jos Buttler's decision comes a day after England were humbled by Afghanistan in their do-or-die match in Lahore. England lost to Australia in their opening game of the Champions Trophy and are in danger of finishing the marquee eight-team ODI tournament without a win.

Buttler made it clear after the defeat to Afghanistan on Wednesday that he would be open to discussing his future with the team management and the England and Wales Cricket Board.
