Jayalalithaa’s Veda Nilayam house won’t be turned into memorial, rules Madras High Court
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's Veda Nilayam house in Chennai’s Poes Garden will not be converted into a memorial, ruled the Madras High Court on Wednesday.
The previous Tamil Nadu government headed by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had decided to acquire Jayalalithaa’s house to convert it into a memorial. The decision was challenged in the Madras High Court by Deepa and Deepak, niece and nephew of Jayalalithaa and legal heirs.
Now, Justice N Seshasayee of the Madras High Court has set aside the decision taken by the previous AIADMK government to acquire the former CM's residence. The high court questioned the logic of converting the house into a memorial asking why there should be two memorials for Jayalalithaa.
