The Rajya Sabha members on August 5 witnessed a heated moment from Samajwadi Party MP, Jaya Bachchan. In a humorous exchange, she teased upper house chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar over the importance of the middle name in her complete official name, ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.’ Leveraging on this, Jaya amusingly hinted that the ‘unmarried’ Union Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, might want to consider appending ‘his future wife’s name to his.

The light-hearted exchange began when Jaya Bachchan, on July 29, expressed her concerns following a mention of her name in official documents by Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh. The veteran actor said, “This something new that women will be recognised by the name of their husbands (sic).”

Chairman Dhankhar, directed the Samajwadi Party MP to raise her subsequent question during Monday’s question hour with Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, responsible for Housing and Urban Affairs.
