Shashank Singh, who represents Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and his father Shailesh Singh have been booked by Bhopal Police after their former cook accused them of assault, verbal abuse and illegal confinement. The case was registered at Ratibad Police Station based on a written complaint filed by the domestic worker, who also alleged that he was physically attacked after deciding to leave the job.

The complainant, 31-year-old Vipendra Singh Tomar from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, said he had joined the Singh family's residence in Mendori village through an acquaintance. According to his complaint, he was offered a monthly salary of ₹15,000 along with free food and accommodation. He also claimed he had been assured assistance in securing a government job in the future.

Tomar alleged that within hours of starting work, he began facing verbal abuse over the quality of the food he prepared. Feeling mentally distressed, he decided to resign and return home, a decision that allegedly angered the family.
