Integrated De-addiction centre inaugurated
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday virtually inaugurated an integrated de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Medical College Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchi.
District Collector M. Pradeep Kumar and Dean S. Kumaravel were present. The Collector said that the 20-bed centre will have two psychiatrists, counsellors, nurses, security, and psychologists to attend to patients and support their rehabilitation. Through this centre, psychological treatment would be provided to the drug addicts to overcome their dependence and rebuild their lives.
The centre will provide medical assessment, including general check-up and consultations, to identify underlying health issues. Patients will receive psychological treatment such as pharmacotherapy, cognitive therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy, to address their addiction. Additionally, the centre will offer individual, family, and motivational counselling, as well as Alcohol Anonymous meetings. Along with therapy, the centre will offer alternative training methods such as yoga, the Collector added.
