India’s T20 World Cup squad likely to be announced on this date

New Delhi: The Indian squad for the T20 World CupWorld CupWorld Cup 2024 is likely to be selected in the last week of April, according to BCCI sources. The last date of submission for teams to ICC is May 1. The ongoing Indian Premier League is been targeted as the platform for selectors to pick their players who will fly to the Caribbean and USA. By April end, all the teams will be at the halfway stage where it will be easier for the BCCI to pick their final squad.

However, every participating team will get a chance to change players in their initial squad till May 25. With the tournament being held in the USA and West Indies, it is expected that a few of the stand-bys will also travel with the team so that there is no logistical nightmare in case any player from the main squad gets injured or has to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances.

“The Indian team will be selected some time during the last week of April, the time by which the first half of IPL will be over and national selection committee will be in a position to assess form and fitness of the contenders,” the senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
