
India files appeal against death sentence to 8 Indians in Qatar

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said an appeal has been filed against the death penalty awarded to eight Indians by a Qatari court last month.
In October, a court in Qatar sentenced as many as eight former Indian Navy personnel to death who were detained in the country for over a year. In August 2022, Qatar detained the former Indian Navy officers on suspicion of working as spies for Israel while they were employed by a company in Qatar.
The MEA on Thursday said, “The judgement is confidential. There is a court of first instance that gave the judgement which was shared with our legal team. Considering all legal options, an appeal has been filed. We are in touch with the Qatari authorities.”
