In a special celebration of sport, inclusion, and international friendship, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, attended the final of the 1st Women’s T20 World CupWorld CupWorld Cup, Cricket for the Blind 2025 as the Chief Guest, showing strong support for women’s blind cricket. Her presence made the event at P Sara Oval even more memorable, where India won the first-ever world title with a 7-wicket victory over Nepal.

India made history by becoming the first women’s blind T20 world champions. After winning the toss, India chose to field and quickly took control. Nepal lost their captain Binita Pun for 5 in the second over to B2 Sunitha Srathe. Nepal tried to recover with 35 (38) from Sarita Ghimire and 26 (26) from Bimala Rai, plus 25 extras, finishing at 114/5 in 20 overs, a competitive score but achievable.

India’s batting started nervously, losing captain Deepika and star batter Anekha Devi early to Ghimire’s strong bowling. The innings then grew steady and strong. B1 Karuna scored 42 off 27, while B3 Phula Saren hit a match-winning 44 off 27. Basanti Hansda added 13 (12) as India finished at 117/3, sparking celebrations as the Women in Blue lifted their first World Cup.
